Razor Dirt Quad Electric Four-Wheeled Off-Road Vehicle (Red)

Razor Dirt Quad Electric Four-Wheeled Off-Road Vehicle (Red)

Disappointment

Ordered Razor ATV, and was sick with performance. Wouldn't run for more than 10 minutes. Then found that the 30 day return policy expired before grandkids returned from Guam and tried it out. Took to authorized repair facility, they said battery good (but I had called Razor who had said battery probably bad and sent new one.) Repair facilility claimed loose bolt was problem and that battery was ok. Took home, same results. Installed new battery (noticed on one of old batteries that someone had marked in red "bad"). Repair guy said Razor had received batch(es) of bad batteries, which they had to replace. Worked great for one week with new battery; same problem again. Now I'm stuck, have 14 more days on 90 day warranty, but must drive 55 miles each way to repair facility. Am I pleased with performance/service? No way. Would I buy Razor again? No way.

2nd one and the boys love them

This is our second quad and they both run great with no battery issues. I bought the first one at Toys R Us and spent $80 more due to tax and pricing. just make sure you charge them per the instructions.

Fast enough for a 3y old...

It's heavy but great. My son got it for his 3 y.old bday and loved it since then. He has a Huge Hummer witch he thinks it's too slow now. Can't compare how nicer this one is.

Excellent Value - 5yr olds and up

We've had this since Christmas and I think I can make a fair assessment now. Opening the box: The product was undamaged and put together for Christmas morning. It went together in less than 10 minutes. First Run: The batteries would only hold a 5 min charge... but that was enough to get my son excited about the prospect of riding his own quad. Razor got new batteries to us within 10 days. No complaints on the service. (Do not let batteries freeze!!) The batters installed more easily than expected. Battery Life: After charging it up, my 6 year old son got on and was VERY surprised. He rode for over an hour and didn't exhaust the battery. Power: We live on a pretty steep hill and he can ride up and down with no problem. Power is very good... about 1/2 hp, enough to maintain forward motion for a 35 degree slope with a 50lb rider. Top speed is about 9mph... 3x walking speed. It can exceed that on a downhill slope, since it freewheels downhill. I have great video of him doing donuts in the driveway after a light snow. Braking: The disk brake works well, stopping the quad effectively on the downhill side. It has enough strength to skid the tires if necessary. Stability: Our son can run it on a hillside without it tipping, but I woudn't recommend it without adult supervision. The solid rear axle and rigid front mean that in tight turns one tire drags (no differential) and that on uneven surfaces only 3 of the wheels will be in contact with the ground. Fit, Finish, Durability: Construction quality is good all around. It should outlast the powertoy type by a long shot. Maintenance is minimal... keep the chain and bearings lubricated...esp in dirty or wet environments. Summary: As a kid's toy... highly recommended. Be aware of the suspension limitations and all should be well. Cheers!

like a Timex! Takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'

We wanted to get something special for our seven-year-old son for Christmas. I saw this quad at a store and thought this looks just right! Save for maybe five days total, this quad has been ridden once or twice a day - seven days a week - since its unveiling Christmas morning. We live in the Upper Peninsula Michigan and this toy has performed well even in some fairly extreme weather. I called customer service about the battery light turning green very quickly (much quicker than the manual indicated) and they simply indicated that I should charge it eight hours minimum and that I needn't worry about overcharging. I followed the manual/directions and did not let the unit sit outside in freezing temperatures but he did ride it frequently in subzero weather with no ill effects. Regardless of the temperatures, my son rides this four wheeler hard and it has not missed a beat. He absolutely loves it! I like it because I don't have to put gas in it, or listen to it, or wrench on it ( besides a quick adjustment once in a while to the brake cable). It is quite stable and he has not rolled it (yet!). From day one, we have steadily had 45 to 60 minute ride times and while I wish the charge time was as short as the ride time, we are very pleased with this purchase. Hundreds of doughnuts in our icy, snowy, steep driveway seem to be just what this little unit was designed for. I can't wait to see my son's smiling muddy face (come spring). I bet it will run a little faster when he's not wearing 10 pounds of winter gear! If I were to re-engineer it, it would have reverse and it would come with two 'quick interchange' batteries so one battery could always be on the charger - similar to a cordless power tool. Being able to park the unit outside in freezing temperatures would be a plus and could be facilitated easily by incorporating heat tape of some sort that took over once the battery reached its charge. The charger port itself has come loose so I'll have to find some way to rig it... perhaps with silicone?... Something so frequently used could certainly have been fastened more rigidly at the factory. Overall though, I would recommend this product highly.... unless you don't like reading and following instructions. Customer service was courteous, prompt and helpful. R. Burger
